HOULTON – Throughout our lives we are sent precious souls meant to share our journey. However brief or lasting their stay… On Sept. 10, 2004, Roger Michael Howland, 20, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his dad’s home. He was born July 26, 1984, at Houlton, the son of Roger and Mary (Friel) Howland. Known to his friends as “Dodger”, he was a graduate of Houlton High School, Class of 2003. Although he was voted “Least Seen” in his senior class, his presence was always felt. Roger enjoyed sports and throughout the years has been active in basketball, baseball and soccer. He was skilled at skateboarding and enjoyed being a rebel when it wasn’t an accepted sport in Houlton. He was an avid sports card collector. He inherited his “Papa’s” artistic abilities, loved to draw and often used his art to express himself. Roger had an infectious grin and knew how to use it to his advantage. He had many friends, young and old. Roger always saw the good in everyone and had the ability to help them see it for themselves. He hoped to someday share his own life experience with others by becoming a substance abuse counselor. He touched many people in his brief life. At the time of his death, he was working with his dad at the family business, Howland Construction. Roger especially loved being with Erynne, Dylan and Mikyla’s “Big Bro”. He is survived by his mother, Mary K. (Friel) Howland; his father, Roger Howland and his wife, Angie; his brother, Dylan Howland; his sisters, Erynne and Mikyla Howland; maternal grandmother, Betty Friel; paternal grandparents, Roger and Glenda Howland; many aunts, uncles and cousins; his many special friends who meant the world to him. He was predeceased by his grandfather and his “hero,” Christopher Friel. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday, at the Dunn Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Saint Mary’s Church with the Rev. Eddy Morin celebrant. A reception will be held at the Houlton Lodge of Elks following the service. Gifts may be made in Roger Michael’s memory to the Roger Michael Howland Memorial Fund to be used for a future drug rehabilitation center in Aroostook County, care of Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park St., Houlton, ME 04730. He has left his footprints on our hearts and we will never, ever be the same…
