HOLDEN – Roger Sumner Pomroy, 79, died April 24, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Nov. 18, 1928, in Hermon, son of Earl Medral and Eva Victoria (Nason) Pomroy. Roger grew up in Hermon and attended Hermon schools and Bangor High School. He married Virginia E. York and built their home in Brewer and raised three children. Roger worked at Eastern Fine Paper & Pulp, until the mill closed in the 1960s. He then founded and operated Pomroy Insurance and Real Estate Agency of Brewer. Roger had a “zest” for life, always humming, singing and was an avid Red Sox fan. Surviving are a son, Scott A. Pomroy of New York; two daughters, Pamela J. Shofkom and her husband, Robert H., of Umatilla, Fla., and Patricia A. Rand and her husband, Craig B. Rand DMD, of Brewer; five grandchildren, C. Bradford Rand DDS and his wife, Betsy, of Brewer, Bridgette P. Saunders and her husband, Gary, of Bangor, Brianna V. Bell and her husband, Jon, of Hollis, Brittany E. Rand of Brewer, and Christopher A. Pomroy of Florida; three great-grandchildren, Olivia V. Rand, Gwyneth R. Rand and Nora E. Saunders; four stepgrandchildren, Sue Ann Thompson of Bangor, Jacqueline Haney of Hampden, Thomas McCarthy of Florida and Patrick McCarthy of Colorado; and his very loving companion, Deborah J. Gass of Holden. Roger was predeceased by a granddaughter, Susan M. St. Heart. The family expresses special thanks to Dr. Reiker and Joanne for many years of their care and support. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. Funeral services will be private for the family.
