CAMDEN and BANGOR – Roland J. Cormier, 86, husband of the late Mary (Maher) Cormier, died Sept. 10, 2007, at his home in Camden. He was born March 20, 1921, in Van Buren, the son of Paul J. and Eva J. (Theriault) Cormier. Roland graduated from St. John’s University, Brooklyn, N.Y., earning his master’s at Boston University. He was affiliated with the Xavieran Bro-thers and was a teacher with them early in his career, was a teacher at several schools in Massachusetts and New York, and was a senior science editor in the textbook division of Holt, Rinehart & Winston, New York, for many years. He was president of Penobscot Valley Stargazers from 1991 to 1993 and was a founder. Roland was predeceased by brothers, Arthur of Florida and Emile of Bangor; and sisters, Constance Mutton of Bangor and Mary Ann Laughlin of Brewer. He is survived by a foster daughter, Laurie Drury and her husband, Edward, of Bow, N.H.; one sister, Lucille Geaghan of Bangor; two bro-thers, Joseph Cormier of Peabody, Mass., and Clifford Cormier and his wife, Vonnie, of Mountain City, Ga.; many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at St. John’s Catholic Church, York Street, Bangor, with the Very Rev. Richard McLaughlin, pastor, celebrant. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. A reception will be immediately after.
