DEXTER – Roland J. Goulette, 84, died Dec. 7, 2006, at his home. He was born Joseph Philip Roland Goulette Nov. 25, 1922, in Dexter, a son of Alphonse and Anita (Gilbert) Goulette. Roland graduated from N.H. Fay High School in 1940, where he was vice president of his class. He worked at Gerry’s Garage until he opened his own garage in 1948, which he operated until 2000. He also was co-owner of the grocery store, Barb and Roland’s, for 30 years. Roland served during World War II from 1942 to 1946 as a staff sergeant and was a survivor of the sinking of the HMT Rohna, one of the worst sea disasters of the war. He served in India, Africa, Burma and China, receiving several medals, one of which was the Purple Heart. Roland was a member of the Poulliot-Seavey American Legion, Post No. 53. He was a communicant of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, and was a 50-year member of the Knights of Columbus. In 1947, he married Barbara Perkins and they recently celebrated their 59th anniversary. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters, Karen and husband, William McFarland, of Bar Harbor, Jill and husband, William Jones, of Dexter, Sue Murray and Ramona and husband, Randall Gompper, all of San Diego; a son, Joseph and partner, Sue Davis and daughters, Kori and Karly of Wells; grandchildren, Mary Ann and husband, Chris Reed, of Far Hills, N.J., Kendra Murray of southern California, Matthew and wife, Sasha McFarland, of Hulls Cove, Lauren McFarland of Portland; great-grandchildren, Conner, Elyse, Hayley and Tyler Reed of Far Hills, N.J.; a brother, Galen of Dexter; sisters, Rita and husband, Dr. John Fahey, of Bangor and Irene Michaud of Vancouver, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Rosalie Goulette of Dexter; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Muffin. He was predeceased by his brothers, Gerard and Raymond. The family thanks Roland’s close friend, Earl Richard, for his consistent visits. Friends may call 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main St., Dexter. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Dexter, with the Rev. Fr.
