LINCOLN – Roland L. Chandler Sr., 85, husband of the late Victoria (Milner) Chandler, died May 17, 2008, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born April 22, 1923, in West Jonesport, the son of William Chandler and Janie (Norton) Chandler. Roland served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, as a seaman first class, where his ship, USS – LST-874, participated in the assault and occupation of Okinawa Gunto. He worked at Bath Iron Works, Bath, but most people will remember Roland from working as a lobster fisherman in Jonesport, Lincoln Pulp and Paper and Mattanawcook Junior High School, Lincoln. Roland was a member of Lincoln Center Baptist Church for many years and enjoyed it very much. He was a member of Carl Burrill American Legion Post No. 77 and Avon D. Flanders VFW Post No. 1438. He is survived by two sons, Roland Jr. and his wife, Brenda and Dayne and his wife, Lisa; a daughter, Penny and husband, Thomas Darr, all of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Roland III and his wife, Tammy, Eric and his wife, Sherri, Emily Darr, Matthew Darr and Joshua Chandler; and five great-grandchildren, Paige, Nicole, Shayna, Lindsay and Kaitlynn. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor William Bewell officiating.
