BANGOR – Roland L. Jackson, 85, died March 27, 2008, surrounded by his devoted family, at a local health care facility. He was born Feb. 3, 1923, in North Searsmont, the son of George and Margie (Poland) Jackson. Roland graduated from Bangor High School and trade school, before going to work for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Roland returned to Bangor and worked at Dow Air Force Base, and later worked and retired from Nissen Bakery. He enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting, fishing, camping, and also enjoyed family gatherings and card playing. Roland is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Bertha (Millay) Jackson of Bangor; his son and wife, Ron Jackson and Sheila of Liberty; his daughter and husband, Joanne and Michael Arbuckle of Hampden; two brothers, Bernard Jackson of Rockland, and Roger Jackson and his wife, Alma, of Montville; four grandchildren, Robin and her husband, Scott Seymour, Shellie and her husband, Erik Tourtillotte, Andy Jackson and his wife, Julie, and Tracey Jackson; five great-grandchildren, Jamie, Kobie, Logan, Alexis and Gavin; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Irvin Jackson; three sisters, Marguerite Jackson, Vivian Buck and Evelyn Buck. The family thanks the staff at Bangor Nursing and Rehab. for their love and devoted care of Roland. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Scott Benner, associate pastor of United Baptist Church, Old Town, officiating. Friends may call 1 p.m. Tuesday until time of the service. Interment will be after the service at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the interment at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
