NEWARK, Calif. – Roland “Pete” Astle, 83, died peacefully Oct. 21, 2006, at his home. He was born May 4, 1923, in Millinocket, the son of Tyler and Amy (Surrette) Astle. He graduated form Stearns High School in 1941. He soon joined the Navy and retired as a chief warrant officer. He is survived by his wife, Connie of Newark, Calif.; a son, Weldon and his wife, Natalie; a daughter, Gayle, all of California; his stepchildren, Virginia and her husband, Greg Pieters, of Newark, Calif., Patrick and his wife, Lisa Lephart, of Colorado; six grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a brother, Weldon Astle and his wife, Donna, of Millinocket. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Warren Astle; a sister, Charlene Caron. Pete’s funeral took place Oct. 27, at St. Edwards Catholic Church, Newark, Calif. Interment will be noon Tuesday, Oct. 31, at Millinocket Cemetery.
