DENVER – Maurice S. Atwater died Oct. 3, 2006, at Denver’s VA Nursing Home. He was born Dec. 24, 1919, in Dexter. Mr. Atwater was a Marine Corp riflery instructor at Parris Island, S.C., and Camp Pendleton, Calif., during World War II. A lifelong entrepreneur, he owned businesses in Maine, Georgia and Florida. He ran Atwater Realty and Construction, Gainesville, Fla., from 1966 until his retirement. He was predeceased by his youngest son, Barton “Bart.” He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Jean (Spivey) Atwater; two sons, Maurice Jr. “Mo” of Denver and Randolph “Randy” and wife, Barbara, of Winter Park, Colo.; and two grandchildren, Scott and Karen Atwater of Rockford and Urbana, Ill.
