LITCHFIELD, N.H. – Bernadette (Pelletier) (Daigle) Smith, 81, of Talent Road, Litchfield, N.H., and longtime resident of McLaughlin Street, Bangor, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006, at the Community Hospice House, Merrimack, N.H. Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 6, 1924, in St. John, a daughter of the late Fred Z. and Alvia (Michaud) Pelletier. She received her early education at Our Lady of Wisdom Academy, St. Agatha and graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy, Portland, in 1942. After attending St. Joseph’s College, Portland, Mrs. Smith married Joel L. Daigle in 1944. After his death she received her Bachelor of Science in education from Husson College, Bangor in 1958. She taught at John Bapst High School, Bangor until 1967, and continued her teaching career at Bangor High School until her retirement in 1984. In 1978, she married Ted Smith, who predeceased her in 1980. Upon retirement from teaching, Mrs. Smith worked part-time for the Department of Homeland Security-U.S. Customs at Bangor International Airport until early 2006. Mrs. Smith was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Parish, Bangor for 49 years. She was also active in many organizations, including the Daughters of Isabella, the Ave Maria Circle 422, The Current Events Club, the Bangor-Brewer Christian Women’s Club, The Maine Retired Teachers’ Association and the Penobscot County Retired Teachers’ Association. Mrs. Smith was predeceased by a sister, Lorene; and a brother, Roland. Mrs. Smith is survived by two daughters, Dr. Marsha Daigle-Williamson and her husband, Dr. Peter Williamson, of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Patricia Daigle Guerrette, with whom she made her home during her illness, and her husband, Daniel Guerrette, of Litchfield, N.H.; one son, Dale Daigle and his wife, Polly Sommerfield Daigle of Rock Hill, Md.; three grandchildren, Jessica Guerrette, Joseph Guerrette and his wife, Jessica and Dr. Janna Guerrette; one great-grandson, Ryan Guerrette; one sister, Patricia Michaud and her husband, Neil, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; one brother, Robert Pelletier and his wife, Judy, of Bridgton; three stepchildren, Peggy Zezula of Canada, Susan Long and Steve Smith, both of Florida; several stepgrandchildren and great-stepgrand-children; a special friend, Reginald Gray of Bangor; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held in Maine at a later time. Burial will be private and will take place at a later date.
