ORONO and HOLIDAY, Fla. Ronald A. Plourde, 82, died peacefully Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007, in the hospital near his home in Holiday, Fla. He was born Dec. 2, 1924, in Waterville, the son of Theophilus and Alma (Poulin) Plourde. He later moved to Bangor, where he attended John Bapst High School, Maine Central Institute and Husson College. He was employed for many years with Rice and Miller Hardware Distributors, serving Somerset, Piscataquis and parts of Penobscot Counties, as a salesman for most of his career. Residing in Orono, he was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, while participating in many parish activities. On his retirement to Florida, he was a daily commun-icant and Eucharist minister at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and was active for nearly 20 years, serving as pre-sident many of these years in the St. Vincent de Paul Society, helping the needy of the area. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Orono-Old Town Kiwanis club and in retirement was very active with the Holiday Kiwanians. He was predeceased by his wife, Mae (Desjardens) Plourde; and a brother, Donald Plourde. He is survived by a sister, Thelma Branscombe and her husband, Fred, of Lincoln, N.H.; a supportive sister-in-law, Geraldine Plourde of New Port Richey, Fla.; and by many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Holiday, Fla. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, by the Rev. Rudolph Leveille at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Orono. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements by Dobie’s Funeral Home, 4910 Bartelt Road, Holiday, Fla.
