CUTLER – Roland W. Ramsdell, 87, went to be with the Lord April 16, 2007. He was born May 31, 1919, in Trescott, the son of the late William B. and Nellie (Cook) Ramsdell. Roland served in the U.S. Army as a tech sergeant during World War II. He was the creator, owner and operator of Ramsdell Construction Co. for more than 40 years. He also owned the Machias Ford-Mercury dealership. Roland enjoyed playing the guitar, especially country songs and hymns. One of his greatest passions was flying. He owned his own airfield and spent much time in his planes and helicopters. Roland adored his family and the time spent together. He also had a special place in his heart for his animals. Roland was a member of the American Legion Stuart Green Post No. 65 in Lubec. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 62 years, Yvonne Ramsdell; children, Gerald and wife, Pat, of Delaware, George and wife, Pat, of Massachusetts, Kenneth “Pete” Ramsdell and wife, Brenda, of Florida, Bickford Ramsdell and wife, Dianne, of Cutler, William “Billy” Ramsdell of Cutler, Amelia Verburgt and husband, Stephen, of Cutler and Laura Jane Brown and husband, Scott, of Campobello Island, New Brunswick; 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Katrina Guptill of Trescott and Lorraine Coit and husband, John, of Connecticut; several nieces, nephews and many special friends. He was predeceased by one brother, Glenn Ramsdell of Lubec; and one sister, Merlin Hudson of Cutler. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, April 20, at New Cutler Cemetery.
