BANGOR and WESTPORT, N.Y. – Peter Allan Duncan passed away unexpectedly April 16, 2007, in Bangor. Peter’s career focused on the paper industry specializing in specialty coated papers. He was national president of OMYA, Inc./Pleuss Stauffer Industries, Switzerland; director of coated papers for Specialty Minerals, New York City; and executive director of the Pulp & Paper Foundation at the University of Maine at Orono. He was a consultant and board director for CIC, a Canadian pilot coating facility in Trois Rivieres, Quebec. Peter’s altruistic endeavors included chairman of the board for Vermont Achievement Center, Rutland, Vt.; a junior achievement mentor in Harlem, N.Y.; and chairman of the building committee to reinstate the charter and reputation of his fraternity, Phi Eta Kappa. Peter is survived by his wife of 43 years, Lynda (Huff) Duncan; one daughter, Sydnie Lyn Benson; a son-in-law, Joseph Michael Benson; two granddaughters, Emily and Chloe Benson of Livonia, Mich.; one son, Peter Allan Duncan Jr. of Peabody, Mass.; three sisters, Cynthia Armstrong, Sharon Barrezzi and Susan Wentworth. A service to honor and celebrate Peter’s life will be held 1 p.m. Friday, April 20, at Buchannan Alumni Center, University of Maine at Orono.
