MILLINOCKET – Ronald Dean Goodwin, 89, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2005, at a local hospital. He was born June 1, 1915, in Millinocket, the son of Robert and Nellie (Marston) Goodwin. Ron was the husband of Nina A. (Mott) Goodwin, who he married in 1989. A lifelong resident of Millinocket, Ron graduated from Stearns High School, Class of 1933. He was a Maine Guide for many years and worked for Great Northern Paper Company as a papermaker, retiring in 1976. Ron was a former member and deacon of the Millinocket Baptist Church and a current member and former deacon of the First Congregational Church of Millinocket. He was a member and Past Master of Nollesemic Lodge No. 205 AF & AM, a Past High Priest of Mount Katahdin Royal Arch Chapter No. 60, Past Worthy Patron of Onawa Chapter No. 130, O.E.S., a member of Anah Temple Shrine and 32nd Degree Scottish Rite. Ron was a charter member of Millinocket’s beloved singing group, “Dot and the Has Beens.” Ron enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all things nature could provide. He was very enthusiastic over the beauty of Mount Katahdin and knew every lake, pond, and tote road in that region. He is survived by his wife, Nina, of Millinocket; three daughters, Shirley D. Donovan of Somerville, Mass., Sarah Goodwin of Popham Beach and Mary and husband, Ross Thompson, D.V.M. of York; his step-children, Barbara (Blakely) and husband, Robert Leo Page Jr. of Brewton, Ala., Marilyn Dawn (Blakely) and husband, Robert B. Libby, of Bangor, and Robert B. and wife, Sheila Blakely, of Demopolis, Ala.; two sisters, Mary and husband, Dr. Richard Boynton, D.D.M. of Raymond and Florida and Frances Dentremont of East Millinocket. He was a special loving grandfather to five grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, several great-grand-children, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Cora (Bouchard) Goodwin in 1986; three brothers, Lloyd, Earl, and Frank; and a stepgrandson, Andrew Thompson. Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at R.L. Bouchard Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. with the Rev. Carolyn Bradley, pastor of the First Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will be in Millinocket Cemetery.
