HAMPDEN – Ronald J. Hachey, 73, died July 19, 2006, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 17, 1932, in Bangor, the son of James and Marie (Theriault) Hachey. He attended school in Bangor until 1949 and enlisted with the U.S. Army, serving with the 570th Field Artillery Missile Battalion. He served until the end of 1958, which included a tour of duty in the Korean War. During his years of service, he was awarded several medals and commendations, including the Purple Heart. After concluding his military service, he lived in several parts of the Northeast before settling in his hometown of Bangor. He was employed by several area businesses, including 18 years as head chef at Dysart’s Restaurant in Hermon until his retirement in 1996. He was an avid reader with an incredible interest in world history, and he supplied an amazing amount of knowledge in this area; if he didn’t know about it then it didn’t happen. He also enjoyed watching The History Channel and Biography on A&E, as well as all of the Godfather movies. Perhaps his greatest accomplishment, of which he was most proud, was being one of the “friends of Bill W.” for 31 years and 32 Thanksgivings. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Allison; a son, “Flip” Sanborn of Bar Harbor; two daughters, Melissa Burns and Belinda Jamison and her husband, Bill, all of Winterport; six grandchildren, Joseph, Chris, Haley, Jacob, Julia and Brody; as well as her brother, James of Carmel. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Eileen; and a son, Ronald Jr. He will be fondly remembered by his family for his hard work, sense of humor, mastery of computer games and unparalleled potato salad. Our sadness at losing him is only surpassed by the wonderful memories that he has given us over the years. He’s in heaven now wearing his trademark trucker hat and a grin on his face. At his request, there will be no funeral services. His ashes are to be spread during a family ceremony at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a donation in his memory to The Prostate Cancer Foundation, 1250 Fourth St., Santa Monica, CA 90401, or online at prostatecancerfoundation.org Arrangements are under the care of Direct Cremation of Maine, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
