OLD TOWN – Rose Ward Black, 82, died Feb. 27, 2004. Rose passed away at a local Orono facility with a peaceful acceptance of her lung cancer. She was born Nov. 29, 1921, in Old Town, to Clinton and Celia (Heald) Ward. Rose lived every day to the fullest, thinking only how lucky she was having loving family and caring friends. She was a graduate of Old Town High School, Class of 1941. She was very active in the VFW, little flower and with activities at her apartment complex in Old Town. Rose moved to Sarasota, Fla., in 1978, and returned to Maine in 2002 to be closer to her family. She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Parker “Bud” Black; and loving niece, Mary Jo Grant of Oakland. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her loving son, Clinton and wife, Rose; two grandsons, Clinton Jr. from Bangor, and Samuel from Glenburn; two great-grandsons, Jordan from Bangor, and Tyler from Glenburn; one brother, Robert Ward from Russell, Ky.; three loving nieces, Linda Spangler and her husband, Harry, from Kentucky, Cathy St. Pierre from Arizona, Missy Harris and husband, Deane, from Old Town; one nephew, Vernon Cunningham and wife, Glenna, from Bangor; great-nieces, Carla, Bobby Jean, and Darcy. Rose would like to mention her very special friends, Ruth and Eddie Young, her lunching buddies, all the people who welcomed her when she returned from Florida, and also extend a big thank you to Laura and Yvonne and staff at Marsh Islands Apartments. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, March 4, at the Holy Family Parish Church in Old Town.
