MAPLETON – Russell J. McEachern, 68, died Feb. 5, 2004, at a Mars Hill healthcare facility. He was born March 20, 1935, in Mapleton, the son of William and Grace (Newbegin) McEachern. He was a member of the Mapleton Baptist Church. Organizations such as the Senior Companion Program, Meals on Wheels and the Presque Isle Nursing Home benefited greatly from his willingness to volunteer and to make other peoples’ lives that much better. When he wasn’t giving of his time he loved to garden or create something out of wood. Surviving him is his wife, Yvonne (Harvey) McEachern of Mapleton; a son, Richard B. McEachern of Florida; daughters, Cathy McCreedy of Massachusetts, Barbie McEachern and Tammy McEachern, both of Connecticut, and Kim McEachern of Florida; 15 grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Debra Harvey of Mapleton; a brother, Perley McEachern of Summerfield, New Brunswick, Canada; sisters, Bessie Carmichael of Caribou, Laura Belyea of Houlton, Ida Richardson of Mars Hill, Joyce Savoy of Farmington, Marion Cochran of Belgrade and Helen Kennedy of Mapleton; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceasing him were two sisters, Barbara and Millie Toby; a brother, Arthur McEachern; and a half brother, Bedford McEachern. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mapleton Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Phelps officiating. Relatives and friends may call 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the church from. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Mapleton Baptist Church, P.O. Box 190, Mapleton, ME 04757.
