OAKLAND – Russell P. Brown, 76, died March 15, 2006, in Skowhegan. Russell operated the family farm until 1972. He went into construction and built homes and stone fireplaces. He worked on the coast building log homes for Lindel Co., including the conference center in New Harbor. Russell was a member of the Cascade Grange No. 92 for 60 years and was a member of Kennebec Pamona. He held offices in Maine State Grange and was state youth director for eight years. His greatest pleasure was working with youth and he and his wife, Dorothy were named Outstanding National Youth Directors. Russell served on the Oakland Town Council and was a member of the Oakland United Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Brown, who he married March 19, 1950; two sons, Roger and Peter Brown; two daughters, Susan Church and Ellen Jurdak; seven grandchildren; his sister, Julia H. Brown; and a special friend, Clyde G. Berry. Visiting hours are 7-9 p.m. Friday, March 17 at Wheeler Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Oakland. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Oakland United Baptist Church, Church Street, Oakland. Spring burial will be at Lake View Cemetery in Oakland. Those who wish may make memorial donations to Cascade Grange No. 92, care of Dorothy Brown, 321 Belgrade Rd., Oakland, ME 04963 or to a charity of choice.
