RUTH A. GONYA GORHAM – Ruth A. Gonya, 79, of Running Springs Road, died Thursday, March 20, 2008, at a Portland hospital. She was born July 9, 1928, in Millinocket, a daughter of Hector and Beulah Elliott Morrison. Ruth was a graduate of Stearns High School. After graduation, she moved to New York City, where she worked as a model. Ruth then moved back to Millinocket where she was employed by Great Northern Paper. In 1950, she married Paul Gonya and then they moved to Presque Isle for 12 years, before settling in Gorham. After moving back to Gorham, she worked at the Pilgrim House. Ruth was a past member of Gorham Garden Club. Her hobbies included painting and gardening. Ruth was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Jean DeVoe; and brothers, Hector and Robert Morrison. In addition to her husband, survivors include her children, Paula Gonya and Paul Gonya, both of Clear-water, Fla., and Susan O’Brien and her husband, Randy, of Gorham; brothers, Lewis Morrison, Harry Morrison and his wife, Tina, all of Millinocket, Frank Morrison and his wife, Joyce, and Gary Morrison and his wife, Billee, all of Florida; a sister, Joyce Kovalcik of Steep Falls; grandchildren, Erin, Caitlin, Megan and Shannon O’Brien; a great-granddaughter, Madison Morton; numerous nieces and nephews. There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 24, at Dolby & Dorr Funeral Chapel, 76 State St., Gorham. Burial will take place at a later date at Maine Memorial Veterans’ Cemetery, Augusta. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Salvation Army, 297 Cumberland Ave., Portland, ME 04101.
