RUTH A. MAHAN MARS HILL – Ruth A. Mahan, 92, died at a Mars Hill healthcare facility May 10, 2004. She was born Oct. 31, 1911, in Mars Hill, the daughter of Lee and Hazel (Dobson) Broad. Ruth was raised by her grandparents, George and Evelyn (Tompkins) Broad. She married Frank Mahan on July 30, 1930, and would enjoy 68 wonderful years until Franks passing in 1998. They loved going hunting, fishing, skidooing, camping, and going to camp in the East Branch. She loved the woods, especially when she saw a deer or moose. She also enjoyed her regular Sunday drive for the chance to see more wildlife. She is survived by four sons, Frank “Sam” C. Mahan Jr. and his wife, Dawn, of Mars Hill, Dick and his wife, Dorcas, of Blaine, Bob and his wife, Betty, of Blaine, Wallace and his wife, Joann, of Mars Hill; a daughter, Charlotte York and her husband, Ernie, of Mars Hill; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, David and his wife, Audrey, of Houlton; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Frank C. Mahan Sr.; and a son, Paul. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Friday at the Duncan Funeral Home, 8 Main St., Mars Hill, with Pastor Wallace Boyd and the Rev. Richard Bell officiating. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until time of service. Interment will take place immediately following the service at Kings Grove Cemetery.
