FARMINGTON – Ruth Ann (Hall) True, 83, of Wilton, formerly of Orono, died early Mon-day morning, April 30, 2007, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, Farmington. She was born Aug. 29, 1923, in Orono, a daughter of Howe Wiggin Hall and May (Betz) Hall. She attended school in Orono and graduated from Orono High School in 1940. She then continued her education at the University of Maine at Orono graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in zoology in three years. Her accelerated graduation was fueled by her desire to join the Navy in support of her brother, John, who was in the Army, and to support her country during World War II. From July 1944 through April 1946 she served in the U.S. Navy. She attended Hunter College in the Bronx, where she received training in the rehabilitation of the blind. After her training, she taught typing and Braille at the U.S. Naval Hospital, Philadelphia. On June 8, 1946, Ruth married E. Milton True. They enjoyed the outdoors together and shared this enthusiasm with their two sons on numerous camping and fishing trips. Ruth worked at the University of Maine at Orono for several years, she returned to receive her master’s degree in food science and continued working there until her retirement in 1989. She enjoyed volunteering at the Church of Universal Fellowship annual fair and counting money for the Salvation Army at Christmas time. She enjoyed her camp at Williams Pond, Bucksport and also loved traveling and watching college sports. But most of all Ruth enjoyed her time with her extended family at the Spruce Head cottage. She is survived by her sons, Robert A. True and his wife, Tricia, of Belgrade and John N. True and his wife, Penny, of Windsor; grandson, Nathan P. True of Mount Desert; and stepgrandson, Eric T. Field of Stratton; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Paul Mosher of Wilton. She was predeceased by a grandson, Alex S. True; a brother, John Hall; and a sister, Lucile Gledhill. Relatives and friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Friday at Wiles Remembrance Center, 136 High St., Wilton. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the center. After the services, a time of fellowship will be held at the home of Paul Mosher in Wilton. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, May 7, at Riverside Cemetery, Orono. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to a charity of one’s choice. Words of condolences may be sent to wilesfuneralhomes@verizon.net
