EASTPORT – Ruth E. Lewis, 86, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at Calais Regional Hospital. Ruth was born Jan. 29, 1921, in Princeton, Mass., daughter of the late William and Cora (Stevens) Basto. She married Charles A. Lewis, Sept. 25, 1945, in Eastport. Ruth was a member of the Ralph A. Ray VFW Auxiliary Unit No. 558 of Eastport, and the Sweet Adelines. She enjoyed poetry, watercolors, gardening, crocheting, telling stories and cats. In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by a son, Robert G. Lewis; three sisters, Doris, Marjorie and Eunice; and six brothers, Ira, Marcus, Lester, Norman, Alfred and Gordon. Surviving are her loving husband of more than 61 years, Charles Lewis; three daughters, Kathryn Lewis of Eastport, Faye Hoban and husband, Ken, of Whiting, and Anita Pottle and husband, Gary, of Hartland; a son, Charles Rea Lewis and wife, Ginger, of Calais; six grandchildren, Matthew Hoban of Parsonsfield, Darcy Page of Salt Lake City, Morgan Pottle of Bangor, Jennifer Lewis of Portland, Charles R. Lewis and wife, Laura, of Portland, and Danielle Lewis, U.S. Air Force; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Della Tucker of Livingston, Utah, and Virginia Pike of Hampton, Conn.; many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, at Mays Funeral Home – Flagg Chapel, 72 High St., Eastport. Burial will be after at Hillside Cemetery.
