RUTH K. STEVENS SHERMAN – Ruth K. Stevens, 95, died May 24, 2004, at Patten. She was born Aug. 21, 1908, in Oakfield, the daughter of Henry and Nellie (Crandall) Sherman. Ruth graduated from Merrill High School and moved to Sherman, where she worked on the Fred Corliss Farm for many years. She married Marshall Stevens on March 31, 1933. She worked at Lewis’ IGA, took care of the sick, and was willing to do any job to keep active and help someone. She enjoyed camping, fishing, picnicing, playing cribbage and having someone in for a cup of tea and the Red Sox. She was known to many in town as “Gram Stevens”. Surviving Ruth are her daughter, Kay McNally and Gary; five grandchildren, Colette McNally and David, Colen McNally and Georgia, Heidi Brackett and Kenny, Torrey McNally and Robin, and Brock McNally; seven great-grandchildren, Chris and Maggie McNally, Lacey, Kasey, and Ken Brackett Jr., Kaylan and Justin McNally; also her two so-called “boys”, Ron Marks and Dick Barstow; special nieces and nephews, Helen Boutilier, Marilyn Giles, Susan Blanchard, Robin Sherman, Dale and Gary Crandall, Yale and Mait Stevens, and Priscilla Young; many great-nieces, great-nephews; cousins, friends; and also her cat, Larry. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Marshall; three sisters, Mary Sherman, Helen Swallow, Pansy Crandall; and her brother, Vaughn Sherman. Many thanks to all personnel at Mt. Heights Healthcare Facility for their kindness and compassion. Friends may call 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the Washburn Memorial Church, Sherman, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Carlton Huntley officiating. Interment will be in the Golden Ridge Cemetery. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls.
