SOUTHWEST HARBOR – S. Leslie King, 74, of Southwest Harbor passed away Nov. 27, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Aug. 1, 1930, in Ellsworth, the son of Stanwood and Elizabeth Thurston King. Les taught industrial arts for 32 years at Stonington, George Stevens, Pemetic and Mt. Desert Island High Schools and Job Corp. in Bar Harbor. Served as a selectman for the town of Southwest Harbor. Les served as past master for Tremont Lodge No. 77 AF & AM. He started inn keeping at Dirigo Hotel in Southwest Harbor with his father and after the Dirigo burned he and Betty purchased the Morrings Inn. Les was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed all Marine activities. A best friend to many. Les is survived by his mother, Elizabeth King of Southwest Harbor; beloved wife and childhood sweetheart of 50 years, Betty Rice King; a son, Storey King and his wife, Kandy Wedge, of Tremont; and a daughter, Leslie Lee King and husband, Charles A. Watson Jr., of Southwest Harbor; grandchildren, Madison Elizabeth King, Alyssa Lee and Natasha Elizabeth Watson. Memorials my be made in Les’ Name to Island Connection, 15 Eagle Lake Road, Bar Harbor or Robert Rich Boat Building Scholarship Fund, care of Southwest Harbor branch of the Bar Harbor Bank and Trust Co. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at Fernalds Funeral Chapel, 1139 Main St., Mt. Desert, with services to be held 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at the Funeral Home. Interment will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at Mt. Height Cemetery Southwest Harbor.
