NORWICH, Conn. – Samuel Mereen, 77, of 93 Newton St., Norwich, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, after a lengthy illness. He was born April 1, 1926, in Bath, the son of Samuel Mereen and Eva Ratliff Mereen. He attended schools in Wilton, and after World War II he completed his education at Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield. He married Patricia Leland Mereen, his wife of 50 years, on July 19, 1953, in Dover-Foxcroft. She survives him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Thomas, JohnPaul, and James; daughter, Margaret Job; their spouses; and six grandchildren. Memorial services were held Nov. 26 at the First Congregational Church in Norwich, Conn. The Church and Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St., Norwich, Conn., were entrusted with arrangements.
