DEXTER – Sandra J. (Stickney) Hughes, 66, went home to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully Nov. 19, 2006, surrounded by her loving family while at the Maine Veterans’ Homes, Bangor. She was born July 17, 1940, in Bangor, the daughter of Bert N. and Virginia (Paige) Stickney. Sandra enjoyed crocheting, camping, puzzles, crossword puzzles, writing in her journal and writing poetry. She was loved by many and touched many lives. She will be remembered as a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother and friend to many. She was a member of the Apostolic Lighthouse Church of Dexter. Sandra is survived by her children, Linda Kimball and husband, Richard, of Dixmont, Cindy Newcomb and husband, the Rev. Timothy James Newcomb, of Zephyrhills, Fla., and George Hughes Jr. and wife, Tyquonda, of Shreveport, La.; two brothers, Philip Stickney of Hampden and Mary, and Gerry Stickney and wife, Hattie, of Carmel; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews; and close friends, Gary Ogden, Inez Buxton, Charlotte Bingham, Karen Ogden and Marilyn Fogg. She was predeceased by her parents, two husbands; Philip Mushrow, George Hughes Sr.; and an infant daughter, Yvonne Estel Mushrow. Sandra’s family thanks the staff of the Maine Veterans’ Homes for the wonderful care she received during her illness. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the West Hampden Baptist Church, 574 Western Ave., Hampden with the Rev. Timothy James Newcomb, Sandra’s son-in-law, officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sandra’s memory may be made to the Maine Veterans’ Homes, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, ME 04401.
