ST. LOUIS, Mo. and SALIBURY COVE – Sara Huckle Murdaugh, 52, long-time summer resident of Salisbury Cove, died after a short illness on Sunday, March 21, 2004. Sally and her family first came to Mt. Desert Island in 1957, when her father began research at the MDI Biological Lab. Sally also worked at the lab for many summers. Sally is the daughter of Dr. H. Victor and the late Sara Huckle Murdaugh; step-daughter of Betty Murdaugh; sister and sister-in-law of Beth Murdaugh and Quay Snyder, and Anne Murdaugh and JB Holston; stepsister of Jenks and Bill Crayton; aunt of Dane and Sara Snyder, and Benjamin and Lianna Holston; and niece of Betty Huckle Rader. Sally lived in St. Louis, Mo., and owned Apropos Gallery and A Shop Called Etcetera. She was a founding organizer of the Saint Louis Art Fair, which is among the premier art fairs in the country. She was a past board member of the Clayton Chamber of Commerce and recipient of its “Excellence in Retail Award” in 1995. Sally was a board member of several community organizations, including SSM St. Mary’s Health Center Foundation, Art Saint Louis, Saint Louis Gallery Association and Washington University Student Entrepreneurial Program. She was a committed volunteer for numerous organizations, including Saint Louis Jazz Festival, AMC Cancer Research, Taste of Clayton, and the Junior League of St. Louis. Sally earned her bachelor’s of science in economics at Washington University in St. Louis and her MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. Sally’s funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at St. Saviour’s Episcopal Church, Bar Harbor. Spring interment will be at Ledgelawn Cemetery. The family is being served by the Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home in Bar Harbor.
