ENFIELD – Scott Alvin Bates, 22, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born in Lincoln, Nov. 26, 1981, the son of Peters Bates Sr. and Donna (Pelkey) Bates of Enfield. Scott was a graduate of Penobscot Valley High School in Howland, where he was an active basketball player throughout his school years. Scott proudly scored his 1,000 points in basketball, Feb. 1, 2001. He was No. 55. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and sports. Scott was attending the University of Maine at Farmington, where he majored in elementary education. Scott was also active on the Rugby Team at Farmington. The Rugby Team will proudly display Scott’s initials on their jerseys in the future of rugby ball. Scott was also a stern man on the “Fair Game” boat in Rockland. In addition to his parents of Enfield, Peter and Donna, he is survived by a big brother, Peter John Bates Jr. and his girlfriend, Katie Holmes, of Enfield; grandparents, Milford Pelkey of Lincoln, Judith and Lennie Perrigino of Lincoln, Alvin and Mabel Bates of Alfred, Robert and Shirley Tyler of Brooksville, Fla.; great-grandmothers, Rachel Tyler of Connecticut, and Delilah McLaughlin of Lincoln; his very special friend, Stephanie Ross of Owls Head. Scotty will also be missed by his many, many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Friends and relatives may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Alan Porter officiating. Interment will be in the spring. His body may be taken from us, but his spirit will always be with us, for we know not what the future holds. But we know who holds it.
