MILLINOCKET – Serene M. Mosca, 83, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at a local healthcare facility. She was born May 7, 1922, in Carpineto della Nora, Italy. At the age of 7, she left Italy with her mother, Carolina, to live in Millinocket, with her father, Gabriel, who had already established residence in the section known as Little Italy, in Millinocket. Serene attended and graduated from Stearns High School and Eastern Academy of Cosmetology. She owned and operated Serene’s Beauty Shop in Millinocket for 50 years. She also was co-owner and director of Twin City Beauty School in Brewer for several years. Serene was very active in the Democratic Party. She chaired many committees and organized many fund raisers for the party. She was nominated as delegate and attended several state and national conventions. She was active in community organizations and especially enjoyed July 4th activities by spending hours designing or helping various organizations build floats for the parade or plan reunions. She was make- up artist for many school plays and local productions by the Millinocket Players. She was an honorary member of the Millinocket Players, a member of the Maine State Cosmetology Association, the National Cosmetology Association, and Little Flower Circle Daughters of Isabella. She was honored by receiving the Community Leadership Award from her professional organization. Serene had a strong attachment to her family and her Italian heritage. She was fortunate to be able to return to her native land several times during her lifetime, and always returned to Millinocket with many stories about the relatives she had left behind in Italy. Serene was predeceased by her parents, Gabriel and Carolina (Rosini) Mosca; two sisters, Antoinette Mosca and Anna Curley. She is survived by two brothers, Robert A. Mosca and his wife, Marie, of Millinocket, Alfred G. Mosca and his wife, Pamela, of Bangor; a sister, Deanna Shepperd and her husband, Roger, of Millinocket; and a brother-in-law, John Curley, of East Millinocket. Serene is also survived by several nieces and nephews, Robert and wife, Diane Mosca, of Millinocket, Mary Alice Cullen and husband, Steve, of Millinocket, Carolyn Bouchard and husband, Steve, of Millinocket, Diane Richard and husband, Tim, of Pittsfield, Joanne White and husband, Tom, of Belmont, N.H., Susan Lathan and husband, Kevin, of Jamestown, R.I., Theresa Bowdoin and husband, David, of Hallowell, Alan Mosca and wife, Jen, of Bangor, Sterling Shepperd and his wife, Kelly, of Buffalo, N.Y., Anthony Mosca of Bangor; and many grandnieces and grandnephews. Bouchard Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, where Little Flower Circle Daughters of Isabella will recite the rosary at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Noon, Saturday, July 2, 2005, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. Burial will be in Millinocket Cemetery.
