MARS HILL – Sharon Ruth (Mersereau) Broad, 64, died Dec. 30, 2007, in South Portland. She was born July 19, 1943, in Mars Hill, the daughter of LeRoy and Bertha Mae (Bell) Mersereau. Sharon was “Mrs. Broad” for 33 years, three months and 13 days for SAD 42 schools, most recently Fort Street School, Mars Hill. She graduated from Aroostook Central Institute, Mars Hill; Aroostook State Teacher’s College, Presque Isle; and University of Maine at Orono with a master’s degree in education. Sharon loved teaching, reading, traveling, her grandchildren and her husband, Steve. She is survived by her daughter, Heidi Broad-Smith of Blaine; three grandsons, Stephen W. Smith, David J. Smith and Andrew J. Smith; a brother and his wife, Raymond W. and Judy (Burtt) Mersereau of Mars Hill; brother-in-law, Jon Turner of Houlton; sister-in-law, Barbara McIntosh and her husband, Wayne, of Bath, New Brunswick; niece, Holly Trafford and her husband, Tom, and their children, Amber and Brandon, of Massachusetts; niece, Andrea Turner of California; nephew, Marc Mersereau and his wife, Janie, and their children, Samuel, Nicholas and Brandon Thomas, of Massachusetts; and nephew, Scott Turner and his wife, Jill, and son, Ciaran, of California. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Stephen D. Broad; a son, Stephen “Matthew” Broad; and a sister-in-law, Anna (Broad) Turner. Relatives and friends may call 4-6 p.m. Friday at Duncan Funeral Home, 8 Main St., Mars Hill. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Tapley Cemetery, Blaine.
