ELLSWORTH – Sheldon C. “Ted” Beal, 77, died Nov. 22, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Feb. 12, 1928, in Ellsworth, the son of Herbert S. and Corace Beal. He was a petty officer in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Leyte as an aerial photographer from 1945-1947. Ted was a member of the fire department and served as secretary-treasurer and officer for the Senator Hale Hose Company for 33 years and was a lifetime honorary member. He was a member of the Lygonia Lodge, Blanquefort Commandery and the Anah Temple Shrine. He established and started the Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Ellsworth Planning Board and Rotary Club for many years. He was a charter member of the first comprehensive planning board for the City of Ellsworth, a member of the Ellsworth Downtown Merchants Association and Building Committee of the Ellsworth High School. He was a member of the Congregational Church of Ellsworth. Ted and his wife, Norma, have owned and operated Beal’s Jewelry store in Ellsworth for 58 years. Ted was looking forward to the 80th anniversary of Beal’s Jewelry store in 2006. He enjoyed skiing at Sugarloaf with his family and friends, playing tennis, working on his wood lot and the many times at their camp he built with his family in Surry. Above all, he loved his family and the time they spent together. He is survived by his beloved wife, Norma S., of 56 years; sons, Gary Beal of Jupiter, Fla., Lloyd Beal and wife, Karen, of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Gregory S. Beal of Jupiter, Fla., Benjamin L. Beal and Kate E. Beal both of Ellsworth; niece, Thelma Beal of Ellsworth; nephews, Richard Beal of Cranberry Island, Richard Smith of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and two favorite ladies he called his daughters, Jennifer Libby and Jackie Dearborn. Calling hours will be held 10:30-noon Friday, Nov. 25, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where a funeral service will be held at noon. Friends are invited to share time with the family following the service at the funeral home.
