CARIBOU – Sheldon Shaw “Scotty” Scott, 82, died June 3, 2007, in Cari-bou. He was born March 12, 1925, in Caribou, the son of Ralph Thomas and Violet (Shaw) Scott. Sheldon was a graduate of Caribou High School, attended Tabor Academy, Marion, Mass., and served with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He married Elaine Andrews June 23, 1946. Sheldon owned and operated the former Caribou Motor Co., at the time the oldest family owned Ford Mercury dealership in New England, retiring in 1989. Known for his genuine smile and enjoyment of life, Scotty was a well-known Allagash River expert, famous for being as comfortable and more than capable of running the river at night. His love of the outdoors extended from skiing at Sugarloaf to spending time at Grand Manan Island, where he traded his canoe for a more seaworthy vessel, enjoying the challenge of the ever-changing temperament of the sea. He was a member of the Gary Memorial United Methodist, the Lister Knowlton Post No. 9389 VFW, the Perkins Plourde Post American Legion, Stockholm and was a former member of Caribou Lodge No. 170 AF & AM. Surviving in addition to his wife and best friend of more than 60 years, Elaine of Caribou, are his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Barbara Scott of Caribou; his daughter and son-in-law, Shelley and Dr. Steven Nadeau of Hampden; his four grandchildren, whom he loved and looked upon with tremendous pride and admiration, Michael Scott and his wife, Melissa, Meghnn and Katherine Scott and Michelle Nadeau. He was predeceased by his parents; and a son, Ralph Thomas Scott. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, from the chapel of Mockler Funeral Home with the Rev. Anna Beach officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
