SHIRLEY M. BAILEY COOKE PRINCETON – Shirley M. Bailey Cooke, 98, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at Calais Regional Hospital. Shirley was born Dec. 3, 1909, in Haynesville, daughter of the late Herbert and Jessie (Rollins) Pelkey. She graduated from Princeton High School, Class of 1928. Shirley worked in the cafeteria at Georgia Pacific for 20 years. She was a longtime member of Princeton Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. Shirley was a member of the “What-so-ever Club” in Princeton and enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. She was predeceased by her husbands, George Bailey and Frank Cooke; a son, Edward Bailey; her sister, Alta Pelkey; her brother, Willis Pelkey; and four grandchildren, Peter, Aubrey, Staci and Sandy. Surviving are two sons, Douglas Bailey and his wife, Audrey, and Elmer Bailey and his wife, Linda, all of Princeton; three stepchildren, Shirley Stemmler, and Francis and Norman Cooke, all of Canada; 12 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and a couple great-great-grandchildren. A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Princeton Baptist Church, Main Street, Princeton. Burial will be afterward at Princeton Cemetery.
