EDDINGTON and BANGOR – Siegfried “Ziggy” Hermann Heinrich Wilking, 66, died Jan. 1, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Oct. 20, 1937, in Langen/Bremerhaven, Germany, the son of Erich August Johann and Johanna Herta (Ahlers) Wilking. Ziggy served his country in the U.S. Army in the Army Transportation Corps at Ft. Eustis, VA. He worked at Granville Lumber Ace Hardware Store in Holden for 15 years. Ziggy was a member of the Eddington Fire Dept. for 22 years. He was a founding member in 1974, rising to the rank of fire chief in 1982, until his retirement in 1996, and was a member of the Maine Fire Chiefs Association. He was a member of the Rising Virtue Masonic Lodge No. 10 in Bangor. Ziggy was affiliated with the Cub Scouts for several years and was scout master of Boy Scout Troop No. 23 from 1976 to 1984. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Patricia (Terrill) Wilking; a son, Eric Wilking and wife Linda, of Belmont, N.H.; a daughter, Sonja Wilking of Auburn, Wash.; a grandson, Christopher Wilking; a sister, Hildegard Ortega and husband, Joe, of Albuquerque, N.M.; an aunt in Germany, and many nieces, cousins and friends. Friends are invited to meet with the family 6-8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 2, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with a Masonic Service to be held at 7 p.m. with officers and members of the Rising Virtue Masonic Lodge presiding. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with Rev. Dr. Randall C. Chretien, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the spring at Eddy Cemetery, Eddington. Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments following the services at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St. Those who wish to remember Ziggy in a special way may make gifts to the Building fund of the East Eddington Community Church, P.O.
