EASTPORT – Spc. Dana Reid Bowen Jr., 20, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, in Bangor, as a result of a motorcycle accident. Dana was born June 29, 1987, in Calais, son of Dana and Mina (Green) Bowen. He graduated from Shead High School, Eastport, Class of 2005. Dana loved sports, playing three years of basketball and baseball, and four years of soccer, becoming a D.A.C. All-star. After high school, Dana entered the Army National Guard, and was, at the time of his death, a specialist serving with Company B 3-172d Infantry, Mountain, Brewer. He graduated basic training from Fort Benning, Ga., the Warrior Leadership Course, Airborne School, Air Assault School and Mountain Warfare School, where he received the Outstanding Ach-ievement Award. Dana was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Eastport and the Fred Mitchell Post No. 11 American Legion, Eastport. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, listening to music, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family and friends. Dana was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Jacqueline and William Bowen Jr.; and an uncle, Rodney “Uncle Bubba” Green. Surviving are his parents, Dana and Mina Bowen of Eastport; his sister, Elizabeth Bowen of Eastport; maternal grandparents, Rita Norton of Eastport and Rodman Green Sr. and his wife, Sunshine, of Pembroke; several uncles, great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins, friends; and his two special friends, Kallie Pottle and Rick Marshfield. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at Mays Funeral Home – Flagg Chapel, 72 High St., Eastport. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Shead High School, High Street, Eastport.
