MINERAL RIDGE, Ohio Stanley E. Stoddard, 93, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Briarfield at the Ridge, Mineral Ridge, Ohio. Stanley was born Oct. 24, 1914, in Pembroke, and moved to Eastport at age four. He was the son of the late Ralph and Maude Stoddard. Stanley had worked for Army Engineers and the Eastport Post Office before accepting employment in Washington, D.C., in 1940. He retired from Washington, D.C., Post Office in 1972 after 30 years of service, 15 of which as a supervisor in various capacities. He also had served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1972, he returned to Eastport, where he spent the summers and spent the winters in Lake Worth, Fla., before permanently settling in Eastport. He moved to Niles, Ohio, in 1998. Stanley was a member of Central Congregational Church, Eastport and Potomac Lodge, F & AM No. 5 of Washington, D.C. His wife, the former Edna Sutherland, whom he married May 29, 1941, died March 3, 2004. He leaves a son, James and his wife, Dianne Stoddard, of Mineral Ridge, Ohio; two granddaughters, Kristine and Rob Rainey of Kirtland, Ohio, Kara and Daniel Calderon of Edmond, Okla.; and four great-grandchildren, Erik Rainey, Ryan Rainey, Ana Calderon and Joaquin Calderon. He also leaves three nieces, Eleanor Bergin of Osterville, Mass., Barbara Goodeill of Bangor and Elaine Dresser of Bethel. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife; and two brothers, Russell and Charles Stoddard. There will be no calling hours. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
