BREWER – Stanley O. Melin, 90, husband of the late Helen (Vincent) Melin, died Dec. 11, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Oct. 17, 1914, in Arlington, Mass. the son of Oscar and Agnes (Envall) Melin. He graduated from Arlington, Mass. High School; and Burdett College. He was a veteran of World War II. Stanley was the superintendent of the Brewer Water District retiring in 1979; a member of the Maine Water Utilities Association, was a long standing member of the First United Methodist Church of Brewer, Ralph J. Pollard Lodge No. 217 AF & AM of Orrington, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Bangor, Maine Consistory 32nd Degree, and member of Anah Shriners, Bangor-Brewer Shrine Club, Academician and former treasurer, and the Corinth Area Kiwanis Club, Senior Citizen Housing Project Planning Board. He was an avid reader and gardener and was a loving, gracious man to all those who knew him. After retirement in 1979, he and his wife Helen traveled extensively and spent several years at their winter home in Florida. He will be missed by his friends and staff at the Ellen Leach Home, Brewer. He is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Janet and David Brannen of Windham, Joan and Robert Gillam of Orrington, Carol and Jere Connolly of Ellsworth; seven grandchildren, Eric Chipman, Sonja Gately and her husband, Michael, Kristine and her husband, Jeffery Briand, Susan Gillam, Matthew Gillam, Patrick Connolly and Aurora Stickle, Michael Connolly; and four great-grandchildren, Joseph and Jacob Gately, Ian and Logan Briand; one brother, Carl Melin of Pennsylvania; one sister, Ethel Adamson of Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his brother, Alvar Melin. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. by the officers and members of Ralph Pollard Lodge No. 217 AF & AM, Orrington. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, at the First United Methodist Church, Brewer with the Rev. Dr. George Curtis III, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the church fellowship hall following the interment.
