MARS HILL – Stetson H. “Ted” Hussey Jr., 86, died March 31, 2005 at a Bangor hospital. He was born June 20, 1918, in Mars Hill, the son of Stetson H. and Gladys (Goodhue) Hussey Sr. He was an Eagle Scout at the age of 14. He was a 1937 graduate from Aroostook Central Institute in Mars Hill. He graduated from Bowdoin College in 1941 and from Boston University School of Law in 1948. Ted became associated with his father, Stetson H. Hussey Sr. in the practice of Law in Mars Hill on May 8, 1948, to the present time. He was a veteran of World War II, 1st Lieutenant and served in the South Pacific for 38 months, his platoon being assigned to various Regimental Combat Teams. Ted was a member and Past President of the Aroostook Bar Association and a member of the Maine Bar Association. He was an advisory director of the Northern National Bank for approximately 20 years. He was one of the Founding Fathers of the Aroostook Health Center in Mars Hill; a Charter Member and Past President of the Mars Hill Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Ted was a member of the American Legion Post No. 118, Mars Hill, a member of Aroostook Masonic Lodge No. 197, Mars Hill and a member of the Mars Hill United Methodist church. He was a member of the Aroostook Valley Country Club and the Mars Hill Country Club. In 1998, Ted was presented a plaque for Outstanding Citizen of the Year and Role Model; a plaque presented for Outstanding Service for the Support of Girl Scouting and the “Health 2000 Youth Educating Youth” Program, a plaque presented by the Maine State Bar Association in recognition of 50 Years of practice in the legal profession; and a medal for 50 years membership in the Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Clara (Towle) Hussey whom he married on Sept. 17, 1948; a son, Bruce L. Hussey, an attorney in Missoula, Mont.; a sister, Mary H. MacBride of Presque Isle; a niece, Barbara H. Bishop of Presque Isle; a nephew, M. Milton MacBride Jr. of Yarmouth; and two special friends, his legal secretaries, Mavis J. Burtchell and Loretta B. Jones. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, at the Mars Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bethann Black officiating. Relatives and friends may call 1-3 p.m. Sunday, at the church. Interment will be in Kings Grove Cemetery in Mars Hill later in the spring.
