WARREN – Talbot S. Hackett Sr., 73, formerly of Winterport, husband of Barbara Tasker Hackett, a longtime independent poultry farmer, died Friday, March 5, 2004, at his home after a brief illness. More than 15 years, he worked with the Frank Newey Hen Farms in Winterport. In 1964, he moved with his family to the Middle Road farm, which had not been operating for some time. His family said that Talbot devoted himself to re-establishing that farm as a viable entity, where he raised laying hens as an independent farmer. In 1990, he established Middle Road Flea Market and Storage and continued in that business as well until his recent illness. Mr. Hackett was predeceased by two sons, Brian Hackett, in 1958, Llewellyn W. Hackett, in 1994; a stepson, Randall Veinot; two sisters, Lorraine Hackett and Norma Allen. In addition to his wife of Warren, he is survived by one son, Talbot S. Hackett Jr. and his wife, Christine, of Connecticut; two daughters, Lori Thatcher and her husband, Dan, of Maine and Florida, Cheri Lynn Hackett of Delaware; two stepchildren, Cathy Clough of Fairfield, Greg Veinote of Newburgh; seven grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two half-brothers, Lledrew Hackett and his wife, Gladys, of Winterport, Charlie Hackett and his wife, Marion, of Arkansas; one half-sister, Marion Rideout and her husband, True, of Ellsworth. Visiting hours will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland. A graveside committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport.
