BAR HARBOR – Theodore “Ted” Maurice Staples, 73, died Feb. 16, 2006, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Sept. 24, 1932, in Brooksville, the son of Maurice N. and Doris (Steele) Staples. Ted enjoyed going to camp at Molasses Pond, hunting and snowmobiling with his friends and the company of his dog, Pampa. Ted and Effie belonged to the Acadia Bells & Boy’s Square Dance Club. Ted worked as a mechanic for Park Chevrolet, Morang Robinson, and for 20 years, was in charge of mechanical maintenance at Acadia National Park. He also worked for Harold MacQuinn, Billings and Hamblen Contractors and was part owner of Staples Construction. Ted plowed snow and cut wood in Trenton with Virgil Greenlaw for many years. Ted is survived by three sons, Dennis Staples and wife, Mary Jane, of Town Hill, Bruce Staples and his wife, Debra, of Trenton and Todd Staples and fiance, Patti Gray, of Town Hill; seven grandchildren, Carrie Anne, Douglas, Christine, Bradley, Jonathan, Emily and Matthew; four great-grandchildren, Chase, Taner, Ryleigh and Lucean; his aunt, Alice Dow of Emory, Va.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Effie Elaine (Hodgkins) Staples Feb. 6, 2006; his daughter, Patricia Elaine Crowley Jan. 9, 1989; and his parents, Maurice Nov. 11, 1992 and Doris Sept. 11, 2000. Friends are invited to call 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert Island Graveside services for Ted and Effie will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Mount View Cemetery, Town Hill. At Ted’s request, in lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in his memory to the Eden Baptist Church, in care of Mary Dean Rush, Rt. 3, Box 919, Bar Harbor, ME 04609.
