PLEASANT POINT, SIPAYIK, PERRY – Theresa May (Neptune) Gardner, 69, passed away Jan. 30, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Lewey and Jerome Neptune. She was an active member of the Maine Basket Alliance for several years and took great pride in her contribution to the preservation of the art of Native American Basket Making. In Nov. of 1995, she was awarded an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Maine Arts Commission for her handiwork in traditional fancy basket making. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Surviving are one daughter Elizabeth (Lisa) and her husband, Ralph A. Francis Jr.; two grandsons, Nicholas Gardner and Ralph A. Francis III of Norwich, Conn.; one brother, Peter James Neptune; two sisters, Clara Neptune-Keezer and Edith Pond, all of Pleasant Point; beloved friend, Diane Apt; and a beloved niece, Cindy Pond, these two women were Theresa’s guardian angels; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be sadly missed by all that knew her, especially Elizabeth Carr, Carroll from Washington D.C., Carol Smith Fisher from Brewer, and Glenda from Texas. Friends and family may call at Edith Pond’s residence Sunday and Monday Feb. 1 and 2. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Pleasant Point, Perry, with Rev. Gaffey celebrant. Interment will be in the Passamaquoddy Tribal Cemetery.
