ELLSWORTH – Thomas Stone Files D.D.S., 98, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004. He was born Aug. 19, 1906, in Haverhill, Mass., the eldest son of Ralph Ernest Files and Charlotte Hanson. He was predeceased by his wife, Nancye Marion Murch Files; and his sister, Elizabeth Hall. He is survived by his daughters, Nancye M. Files of Ellsworth and Charlotte F. Landis and husband, Robert, of Alexandria, Va.; his grandsons, Christopher W. Landis and his wife, Shawn, and Geoffrey S. Landis and wife, Jennifer; his brothers, Richard and wife, Ellen, of Cumberland and Robert of Holden. He is also survived by two great-grandchild-ren, Reagan and Ryder, many special nieces and nephews. Dr. Files received his doctor of dental surgery from the University of Pennsylvania and practiced dentistry for 40 years in East Orange, N.J. before moving to Ellsworth in 1970. While in New Jersey he was an active member in his community with affiliations in Boy Scouts, Kiwanis, Arlington Avenue Church, Orange Memorial Hospital Medical Staff and Dental Clinic. In Ellsworth, he continued to practice dentistry and volunteered his services at St. Joseph’s Hospital in the Dental Clinic and taught at Bangor Community College School of Dental Hygiene. He became an active member in the Friendship Sloop Society with his sloop “Chance.” He was a loving father and mentor to many, he will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at a future date.
