OLD TOWN – Valencia A. (Babe) King, 85, wife of the late Maurice J. King for 49 years, died peacefully at home on March 22, 2004, after a long illness surrounded by her family. She was born Dec. 8, 1918, in Old Town, the daughter of the late Otis Napolean and Annee (Flynn) LaBree, and the stepdaughter of the late Paul Bishop. Although her life was not always easy, she never complained, she worked hard, stood by her family, kept her faith, and always saw the funny side of life. This redhead loved to laugh and tell stories of her youth and escapades with her “girlfriends,” many of whom shared her 80th birthday with her. Laughter was her gift to all who knew her. Valencia is survived by one daughter, Judith and her husband, Gerald Parmenter, and their daughter, Jessica, of Beaverton, Ore.; two sons, William King of Old Town, and Peter King and his wife, Gwendolyn, and their daughters, Katie and Molly, of Milford; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Otis LaBree; and her sister, Irene Lavoie. The family would like to give special thanks to her neighbors and caregivers for the love and care provided during her illness. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2004, at Brookings-Smith Old Town Chapel, 205 Main St., Old Town. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, March 26, at Holy Family Parish with the Rev. Norman Richard, pastor, celebrant. Interment will be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Old Town, in July. Memorial donations in Valencia’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
