TRENTON – Veda G. Eldridge, 90, died Feb. 25, 2005, at an Ellsworth healthcare facility. She was born May 23, 1914, in Pinchton, W. Va. the daughter of LaRoy E. and Jettie P. (Wells) Gorman Veda graduated from Fairmont State College in 1933 at age 19. She taught 3rd and 4th grade. Veda later owned and operated a women’s clothing store called Veda’s in Chevy Chase, Lexington, Ky. until her husband’s retirement in 1972. Upon retirement she and her late husband, Merrill moved to Maine in 1973. She was an active member of the Church of Our Father Episcopal Church, of Hulls Cove. Veda is survived by her stepson, Karl M. Eldridge and wife, Lee, of Lexington, Ky.; and a stepdaughter, Sara E. Schultz and husband, Tom, of Wauwatosa, Wis.; three brothers, Bernard W. Gorman and wife, Marjorie, of Tarkio, Mo., W. Dean Gorman and wife, Mildred, of Lexington, Ky., and J. Duane Gorman and wife, JoAnn, of Leland, N.C.; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Merrill E. Eldridge; and a brother, LaRoy E. Gorman. Friends are invited to call 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2005, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Chuck Bradshaw presiding.
