CHESTER and LINCOLN – Velma Eunice (Bailey) Libby, 89, died July 9, 2006, at a Lincoln healthcare facility. She was born Jan. 1, 1917, in Lincoln, the daughter of Bertrand L. and Madeline E. (Clifford) Bailey. As a young girl, Velma worked on the soda fountain at the Rexall Drug Store. She worked in Barnes Woolen Mill, Lincoln and shoe shops in Old Town. Some winters she cooked for her husband in woods camps. For 30 years, Velma worked as a waitress in the following restaurants: Lincoln House Hotel, Leon Libby’s Bakery, Shorette’s Diner, Taylor’s Diner and Rose Bowl Restaurant. She lived most of her life in Lincoln, raising her family and moving to Chester in later years. Velma loved to make afghans, mittens and stockings which she gave to family and friends. She is survived by a son, Durwood E. Libby of Chester; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Lloyd E. Libby; and a daughter, Genevieve A. (Libby) Weatherbee Gatcombe. At her request, there will be no public services, but friends and relatives are invited to a graveside service 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, at the family plot at South Chester Cemetery, with the Rev. Keith Cushman officiating. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate in her memory to The Greater Lincoln Christian Academy, P.O.
