EAST ORLAND – Vera (Conary) Borrows, 88, died March 12, 2004, at a Bangor Hospital. She was born Jan. 16, 1916, in Orland, the daughter of Herbert and Alice (Gray) Conary. Vera worked at the Shop ‘n Save in Bucksport for more than 20 years. She enjoyed knitting, making afghans, and watching the deer in her back yard. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, homemaker, and loved her family. She is survived by her son, Russell E. Tennant and his companion, Judy White, of Orland; two granddaughters, Linda Astbury and her husband, Arnold, of East Orland, Gail Lord and her special friend, Norman Clement, of Orland; five great-grandchildren, Cory Astbury and his girlfriend, Jamie, Amanda Astbury, Denise Wardwell and her husband, Jason, Stacey Lord, and Scott Lord; five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Marshall Conary of Milford; two sisters, Nina Mae Smith of Holden, and Wyneta Nightingale of Florida; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, William (Earland) Tennant, in 1969; her second husband, George T. Borrows, in 1981; her daughter, Maxine M. Sweet, in 1992; two sisters, Florence Bull and Helen Grindle; three brothers, Foster Conary, John Conary and Clarence Conary. Visiting hours for family and friends will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Interment will be later this spring at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Orland. Donations may be made in her memory to a charity of one’s choice.
