VERA L. BLAKE, R.N. HOULTON – Vera Louise Blake, R.N., 78, went to be with her Lord April 12, 2005, at a local health care facility. She was born July 26, 1926, at Jackins Settlement, the daughter of William A. and Iva (Day) Blake. Vera loved life and lived it fully. Her pursuit for knowledge continued throughout her life as she graduated from Houlton High School, Class of 1945, Zion Bible Institute, Class of 1948, Boston Airline School in 1950, the Missionary Health Institute of Toronto in 1956, and received her R.N. degree from Lynn Hospital in 1960. She continued to attend workshops and conferences her entire life. She loved to travel, practicing nursing in California, Florida, Massachusetts, and Houlton, retiring in 1990. She was a member and supporter of the Zion Alumni Association, the Lynn Hospital Alumni Association, and the Houlton RSVP. She also had great compassion for children and supported the Whited Bible Camp in Bridgewater. Vera is survived by two brothers, Lawrence Blake and his wife, Regina, Kenneth Blake and his wife, Joyce, all of Houlton; two sisters, Eleanor Brown of Veazie, Joyce Hovey and her husband, Leo, of Houlton; more than 50 nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Harold H. Blake. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, at the Full Gospel Assembly Church, with the Rev. Brian Hovey, officiating.
