LINCOLN – Verna M. Lyons, 95, wife of the late Ernest Lyons, passed away March 15, 2005, at her home. She was born, Jan. 20, 1910, in Lincoln, the daughter of Edward and Florence (Tozier) Murphy. Verna attended Mattanawcook Academy and in 1969 received her Nurse’s Aide Certificate from Eastern Maine General Hospital in Bangor. She was employed by Eastern Maine General Hospital and later at Workman Hospital in Lincoln. Verna was a member of the Lincoln United Methodist Church. She is survived by a son, Donald “Dee Dee” Lyons and his wife, Polly; a daughter, Mariel Knights and her husband, Arnold Sr.; a brother, Elijah Murphy; a sister, Mary Shedd; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Lyons; sisters-in-law, Josephine Hyde and Elva Murphy; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She also leaves relatives in Sillikers and Red Bank, Canada. In addition to her husband, Ernest of 64 years, she was predeceased by sons, Ervin “Goose” Lyons and Raymond Lyons; and brothers, James Murphy and Major Robert Allen Murphy. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2005, at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, with the Rev. Guy Downing officiating. Spring interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate in Verna’s memory to either the Community Health and Counseling Services-Hospice or the Lincoln United Methodist Church.
