BANGOR – Vincent W. Karlsson Sr., 84, died Dec. 6, 2006, at a local hospital. He was born Dec. 17, 1921, in Bangor, son of Halmar L. and Mary (Lowell) Karlsson. He was educated in the Bangor schools and served in the U.S. Army in the 152nd Field Artillary during World War II, the Navy and the Merchant Marines. He was employed for 27 years as a yard conductor for the Maine Central Railroad, until his retirement in 1973. Vincent was a member of Forest Avenue Congregational Church, a life member of the American Legion Post No. 84, Orono, and the United Transportation Union of the Railroad. Surviving are his loving wife of 65 years, Delina Ann (DesChaines) Karlsson of Bangor; four children, Vincent W. Karlsson Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Stetson, Sally A. Page and her husband, Clifford, of Veazie, Linda E. Smith and her husband, Colman, of Elgin, Ill., and Ellen M. Dayton and her husband, Paul, of Bangor; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Halmar L. Karl-sson and his wife, Vivian, of Augusta; one sister, Patricia Chapman and her husband, Kenneth, of Randolph, nieces and nephews. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, with Pastor Robert Bailey, pastor of the Forest Avenue Congregational Church and the Rev. Ann Purdy officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Bucksport. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversations and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor, immediately after the service Friday.
