PRINCETON and WAITE Virginia C. Phelps, 96, passed away July 25, 2008, surrounded by her loving family at a Calais health care facility. She was born June 4, 1912, in Waite, the daughter of Justus and Grace (Rioux) Rideout. Virginia’s most enjoyable times were spent with her family, especially all her grandchildren. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and knitting, especially Christmas mittens for all the family. She is survived by one son, Lee Phelps and his wife, Margaret, of Topsfield; one daughter, Helen Dwelley and her companion, Earl Bailey, of Grand Lake Stream; one daughter-in-law, Margaret Phelps of Waite; two sisters, Charlotte Renaud and her husband, Edward, of Waite and Frances Dudley of Bangor; 12 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Donald Phelps; three sons Kenneth, Donald and Rodney Phelps; two brothers, Edmund and Warren Rideout; and three sisters, Jessie Sutherland, Elise Gould and Iva Trask. Graveside services will be held 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at Dudley-Phelps Cemetery, Waite. Arrangements with Clay Funeral Home-Bartlett Chapel, 24 Houlton Road, Danforth.
