BELFAST – Walter Frank Riley Sr., 73, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 26, 2005, at Waldo County General Hospital after a courageous long struggle with fibrosis of the lungs. He was surrounded by his loving family and extremely supportive hospital staff. Walter was born Jan. 2, 1932, in Monroe, to Frank Edward and Mildred (Evans) Riley. He served with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Newport during the Korean War. Walter was a long time employee at Home Supply Center, Belfast, and appreciated and was most helpful to all the customers. He was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church where he served on several boards and committees. A past Master of the Belfast Masonic Lodge and of Excelsior Lodge No. 151, Northport. An active member of the Waldo County Masons, of which he was a dedicated organizer and advocate of many Hospice Suppers. He was Assistant weight recorder of TOPS No. ME. 62, Belfast and Chapter King in 2004. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his son, David Paul Riley; and siblings, Maude Riley, Bernice DeMass, Ada Dyer, Doris Patterson, and Howard Riley. Walter is survived by his wife of 50 years, Roberta Riley; two children, Walter F. Riley Jr. and wife, Debora, and Ruthey Riley Littlefield and husband, Jake; five grandchildren, Frank Edward Riley, Miranda Sue Riley and Luke Cote, Zachary Thomas Riley, Danielle Sue Littlefield, and Madison Riley Littlefield; and a great grandson, Noah Riley Cote; five siblings, Clyde Riley and wife, Marge, Fred Riley, Lewis Riley and special friend, Shirley, Edna Kenney and Eunice Palmer; a sister-in-law, June Riley; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Friends are invited to gather Thursday, June 30, between 6-7 p.m. at the Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast, where a Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 1, at the First Baptist Church, Belfast. Walter was an avid Red Sox fan and was elated when they broke “The Curse” and won the World Series in 2004! Go Sox!!!
